About

I started painting while at University in the mid-sixties studying English literature, and am largely self-taught as a painter. Since childhood in the UK and elsewhere, I have had a strong emotional connection with the land. Most of my adult life I have looked for balances between - and combinations of – my own creative world, and working through the arts with other people. I moved to County Cork, Ireland in 2012.

Exhibitions

Exhibitions in a wide variety of venues from 1971 to 2020, including universities and art centres, galleries in London, Bristol and New York, exhibition spaces in India, Galway and Boston (including a ‘pop-up’ show in Boston Logan Airport customs hall, where I had to unpack my entire exhibition of ‘maps’, because having seen one, my inquisitor decided I might be ‘subversive’; audience – all 15 of the on-duty customs officials).

Last show in UK, an auction in 2011 in aid of MSF (Medecins sans Frontieres).

Since moving to Ireland in 2012, shows in Bantry; Schull (Blue House Gallery); an impromptu show of 30 ‘maps’ at a 2 day conference in Limerick for World Beyond War; and in 2020, Ballydehob Working Artists’ Studios.
